From Talk of the Trade

Quotes out the door before you leave the job.

Paste the enquiry, pick the lines from your own price list, send. The customer gets an email with a link and accepts on their phone. On Starter and Crew, three reminder emails go out at 2, 5 and 10 days, and stop the moment the customer answers.

Free costs no money: you agree to receive marketing from Talk of the Trade and its partners by email and phone, and can unsubscribe any time. What that means Starter from $39 a month, cancel any month.

Your price list, your prices

Put your usual jobs in once: call-out fee, hourly rate, a tap replacement, a metre of trench. Every quote after that is picking from a list and typing in the odd extra. No templates to fight, no spreadsheet to find.

The customer answers on their phone

The quote is an email with a link. The link opens a page with your business name, the lines, the total and two buttons: "Accept this quote", or "No thanks" with a reason. Your quotes page moves it to Won or Lost the moment they press.

Follow-ups you do not have to remember

Press one button after sending and Quote Desk emails the customer at 2, 5 and 10 days until they answer. Paid plans only. The moment they accept or decline, the rest are cancelled.

How it works

How a quote gets out the door

  1. Load your price list

Item, price, unit. Call-out fee, $120 each. Labour, $95 an hour. Do it once from the ute or the kitchen table.

  2. Get the enquiry in

Forward the customer's email to your enquiry address, paste it in by hand, or on Crew let the form on your own website post it straight in.

  3. Build the quote

Press "Quote this". The customer's name and email are filled in. Pick lines from your list, type in anything odd, add a note. Save the draft, read it, send.

  4. They accept on their phone

The customer opens the link, reads the lines and the total, and presses "Accept this quote" or "No thanks". Your quotes page moves it to Won or Lost.

  5. Follow up without thinking about it

On Starter or Crew, one button schedules three reminder emails at 2, 5 and 10 days. An answer cancels whatever is left.

The whole flow, step by step

Quote builder

Pick the lines, add a note, save

A quote is lines. Each line is either an item from your price list or something you type in on the spot: description, quantity, unit price. Add up to twenty lines. Write a note to the customer underneath for the things a line cannot say: access, timing, what is not included. The total adds itself. Save the draft, read it once, press "Send to customer".

  • Price-list items drop in with their price already set
  • Type in one-off lines without adding them to your list
  • A note to the customer travels with the quote
  • The quote goes out under your business name

About the quote builder

The quote builder, with an example: a quote for Joel Abernethy from Harbourline Plumbing. Remove old unit and dispose, $180.00, picked from the price list; 250L electric unit, supplied, $1,290.00, picked from the price list; Install, valves and compliance, $420.00, typed in. Total $1,890.00.

Accept link

No PDF to open, no form to print

The customer gets a plain email: your business name, each line, the total, your note and one link. The link opens a page sized for a phone. It shows the same lines and two buttons: "Accept this quote", or "No thanks" with a box for the reason. Either answer lands in your dashboard straight away, and the page tells them to reply to the email or call you if they have a question.

  • Opens on any phone, nothing to install
  • Accepted and declined quotes are stamped with the date
  • A declined quote keeps the reason the customer gave
  • Your mobile number is on the page so they can ring you

About the accept link

The quote as Joel Abernethy opens it on a phone: the quote from Harbourline Plumbing, its lines and total of $1,890.00, an "Accept this quote" button and a "No thanks" link.

Follow-ups

Three reminders, then you stop

A quote that goes quiet is often one nobody chased. On Starter and Crew, a sent quote has a button: "Follow up automatically". Press it and Quote Desk sends a short reminder email 2, 5 and 10 days later, each with the same accept link. If the customer accepts or declines, the remaining reminders are cancelled. The quotes page shows how many are still to go.

  • Short, plain emails in your business name
  • Cancelled the moment the customer answers
  • One sequence per quote, never more
  • Not on the Free plan

About follow-ups

The follow-ups on a quote to Joel Abernethy: sent on day 0, reminders on day 2 and day 5, accepted on day 6, and the day 10 reminder cancelled because the customer answered. Follow-ups are on Starter and Crew.

Enquiries

Every job request in one place

Each account has its own enquiry email address. Forward a customer's email to it and the enquiry appears on your Enquiries page with the sender's name and what they wrote. Took the job over the phone? Paste what they asked for into the form. On Crew, a form on your own website can post enquiries in as well. Every enquiry has a "Quote this" button that starts the quote with the customer's details filled in.

  • Your own forwarding address, shown on the Enquiries page
  • Paste an enquiry in by hand in under a minute
  • On Crew, your website's form posts straight in
  • Each enquiry shows the quote it turned into

About enquiries

The Enquiries page: the account's forwarding address, enq-harbourline@in.talkofthetrade.com.au, and 3 example enquiries, the newest with a "Quote this" button.

Questions, answered

Do I need a card to start?

No. The Free plan takes no card. You sign up with your business name, email, a password and your Australian mobile, which we check with a text code. Free is paid for by ticking a box that lets Talk of the Trade and its partners contact you about business growth and advertising services. The paid plans take a card and carry no such consent.

What does the customer actually get?

An email from Quote Desk in your business name with the subject "Your quote from [your business]". It lists each line, the quantity, the line total and the overall total, then your note, then one link. The link opens a page on their phone with the same figures and the "Accept this quote" and "No thanks" buttons.

Does Quote Desk add GST?

No. A quote is the lines you put on it and their sum. There is no GST line and no tax calculation. If you are registered for GST, put GST-inclusive prices on your price list and say so in the note to the customer.

Can I use it on my phone?

Yes. The dashboard, the price list, the enquiries page and the quote builder all work in a phone browser. There is no app to install. The customer's accept page is built for a phone too.

What happens when I hit the Free limit?

The send button tells you that you have used 5 of 5 quotes this month and offers Starter. Nothing is sent and nothing is charged. The counter goes back to zero on the first of the month, Melbourne time. Drafts do not count; only a quote that goes out does.

Does this change my listing on Talk of the Trade?

No. Quote Desk has nothing to do with the directory's rankings. It does not sell a listing, move a rank, add a badge or claim a profile. The directory ranks by review count and that is all it does.

Can I cancel?

Any month. The "Cancel at period end" button sits in the Your plan panel on your Billing page. Your plan runs to the end of the period you have paid for, then stops. Your quotes, enquiries and price list stay in the account.

Send the next one from the ute.

Free is five quotes a month, paid for by a marketing consent instead of a card. Past that, Starter is $39 a month. Either way the set-up is typing in your price list.
